Funds that came from the City of Bend’s allocation of Oregon State-directed CARES Act to the Community Support Program Grant were focused on nonprofit organizations providing essential services to vulnerable populations in the City of Bend.
COVID-19 has had a disproportional impact on traditionally vulnerable and marginalized communities. Vulnerable populations are those typically excluded, disadvantaged or marginalized based on their economic, environmental, social, or cultural characteristics, and those with an increased risk from COVID-19 complications (older adults and individuals with underlying medical conditions). The current circumstances related to COVID-19 have increased barriers for nonprofit organization to equitably provide critical services. The City of Bend Coronavirus Relief Fund (COB CRF) Grant funds were made available to assist qualified nonprofits in serving those vulnerable populations.
